Present Perfect Foundations: Past or Present?

Welcome to Perfect Foundations, a module designed to help you review two important English tenses: the Present Perfect and the Past Simple.
As a B1 level learner, you are already familiar with these tenses, but this module will help you reinforce some of the key differences between the two.
We’ll remind you that Present Perfect is a present tense that doesn’t need a specific time reference to be complete. For example, “I have eaten” simply tells us that the action is relevant to the present moment. In contrast, the Past Simple always needs a timestamp or context to be correct, like “I ate at 7 pm last night.”  We’ll also explore the most common time expressions used with both tenses.

There’s a quiz at the end to help you consolidate everything you’ve learned! Ready to get started? Let’s dive in.

The interactive module, below, can be zoomed to fill the screen. If you are studying on a mobile, put your phone into landscape view.
